I actually do receive a number of spam comments left by some simply due to being a DoFollow blog. Sometimes pages like this are an open door for those looking for sites for that very purpose ;-)
Yes, I know, I do have a page published, but that is simply my reward for those that have implemented the DoFollow plugin, not to really publicize it. I have seen pages posted to list sites that use the plugin for those just trying to get backlinks for SEO purposes. That's not what the intention is for this.
I like to give backlinks to those who contribute with comments that add to the topic at hand, but I will delete those that simply write something like 'nice post' to get a link.
There is a plugin available that allows you to delink the author should a spammy site write a 'valuable' comment. I won't leave links to websites that are only trying to sell something, it's strictly for blogs. You need to remember that you are linking to a site, and your blog can be penalized for doing so to spammy sites.
Thanks for a great post with very useful resources. I suppose spam will always be an issue, but folks who want to post real comments shouldn't be penalized because of this. So, it is good to see that there are communities that cater for do follow blogs. I wasn't aware of these.
I do dofollow for some of my blog but turn it nofollow for others, since google slam me hard for doing a dofollow.
